Once you get settled, relax on the rocking chair front porch, breathe in the crisp mountain air and consider the many ways to fill your time while visiting the Blowing Rock/Boone area.   • Grandfather Mountain
    Grandfather Mountain features the famous mile high swinging bridge. Its peak is the highest elevation in the Blue Ridge chain. We highly recommend this as a day trip during your stay. There are fantastic hiking trails and plenty of natural beauty.

  • The Blowing Rock
    Yes, there actually is a "blowing rock" in the NC Mountains. This huge rock cliff is said to have such a wind gust, that it is the only place on earth where it snows upside down. It is part natural wonder and part tourist attraction.

  • Tweetsie Railroad
    "North Carolina's Original Family Theme park" - Tweetsie Railroad is a short drive from A Bear's Den Cabin. There is plenty of live family entertainment including music, magic, clogging, wild west shows and more. The amusement park features a steam engine, fun rides, gem mining, and gold panning.

  • The City of Blowing Rock, NC
    The town of Blowing Rock is a quaint shopping, dining, and art center. There is the feeling of a mountain village and resort town all in one. A walk through town is a fantastic retreat.

  • The City of Boone
    Boone, North Carolina is home to Appalachian State University, and some of the best shopping and dinning in the NC high country. Don't miss the Mast General Store and family-style dinning at the Daniel Boone Inn. As a larger city, this is the place to head when in need of a Wal-Mart or Lowes home improvement store.

  • Appalachian Ski Mountain
    Official website of Appalachian Ski Mountain, NC. This slope is right around the corner from A Bear's Den cabin.

    We can't recommend this place highly enough! For over 40 years, the Dan'l Boone Inn has been serving Boone and the high country delicious home cooked meals, just like you remember at grandma's house. Our family style meals begin with a salad in the summer and soup in the winter. Three meats and five vegetables are served along with biscuits, preserves, dessert and beverage.
